Oman TV is the national television channel broadcaster in the Sultanate of Oman. Based in Muscat and Salalah Oman TV is broadcasting news, government announcements and shows. The sister channel Oman TV2 offers sports and cultural programs. All broadcasts can be received via satellite or internet. To further improve live coverage the company planned to expand their fleet by adding two OB vans. The project was awarded to United Broadcast & Media Solutions as prime contractor and BFE for project implementation.

Task:

United Broadcast & Media Solutions supplied two semitrailers which BFE had the task to equip with the necessary technology and air conditioning. The challenge in this project was considering the extreme environmental conditions in the sultanate. Air condition systems and cooling solutions had to be designed to cope with high temperatures, dust and humidity.

Solution:

Two OB vans with different dimensions were equipped:

  • HD1 for use in Salalah is a compact 8 camera OB van based on a Mercedes Actros chassis and a total length of 10,7 m

  • HD2 for use in Muscat is a 10 camera OB van with extendable outer shell and a total length of 12,6 m

Both vehicles are divided in audio control, video control and technical control rooms. The audio control rooms were equipped with a Lawo MC56 Mixer and configured to match the consoles already in use by Oman TV.

Each unit is accompanied by an additional support truck based on the Mercedes Actros 1222 chassis, built in cooperation with a Dutch coach builder.

In an additional project for the customer, a mobile production unit divided into several flight cases was created. The production kit is used for temporary use in situations requiring fast build-up and maximum flexibility such as large sports events.
