In the technology industry, change is part of everyday life; consistency is rare. This makes it all the more remarkable when a system sets standards over many years – both technologically and in practice.

KSC Core has been accompanying the transformation in the broadcast environment since 2015: from classic SDI to highly available IP infrastructures. What was presented as a visionary product at BIRTV in Beijing is now the control centre in over 300 installations worldwide – in studios, master control rooms, control centres and mobile production units.

Requirements have changed significantly during this time: away from rigid, SDI-based architectures towards flexible, IP-enabled production environments. KSC Core has not only followed this path – it has helped shape it in many ways.

One example of this is the bouquet function, which is now used in many IP projects. It originated from a specific customer project and now enables the dynamic bundling and control of a wide variety of streams (audio, video, metadata). Such developments show that technological progress in the system is not based on trends, but on actual requirements from practice.

Success through proximity to operations

Many enhancements in KSC Core have emerged over the years from specific needs:

• Further development of front ends such as the Event, Cirquit or Salvo Manager

• The GFXUnit graphical user interface: now standard in the daily work of many operators

• Ever new interfaces to manufacturers, systems and protocols

  
  

All these steps were not ‘designed’ centrally, but developed because they were needed. This proximity to the business makes a difference – and ensures that KSC Core is now in use in more than 300 installations worldwide.

This not only describes the demand for reliability. It is also a promise for the future: even as technologies evolve, control must remain stable, flexible and understandable.

KSC Core will continue to grow: through new ideas, new requirements – and through feedback from an active community. Because the system has long been more than just software. It is part of daily operations. And has been for ten years.
